The idea for this website was born as I had windsurfing equipment in the Netherlands, stored in my parents’ attic, which I wanted at my home in Ireland.
For someone not familiar with transport industry terminology, I found myself spending many hours, having to make numerous phone calls and search over many websites in order to obtain a quote.
On the various websites and during those telephone calls, focus was on my understanding of the industry terminology, instead of the business/revenue I was offering them. The best quote I got was €780.00, not knowing if I had provided the correct information or if I was given the best offer (financially & service-wise).
I scratched my head and realised that currently there are a lot of vehicles delivering goods, often empty or part loaded on one of their legs, unless they or their company managed to find something for the return journey. So as potential customer I was looking for a way to contact these drivers/transport companies and found there are a few websites which are focused on people working in the transport industry through the jargon used. I also found their websites very user-unfriendly, ‘cluttered’ with text everywhere, instead of self-explanatory images; mainly focused on the transport industry instead of a member of the public requiring to ship goods. I also found after attempting to load my ad that most websites are limiting the user by offering only certain origin and destination locations. The first advert was placed on 29 October 2011 which was for shipping my windsurfing gear. Where I managed to get a quote for €780.00 after numerous hours on the internet and phone, the first bid was received within 48 hours for €550.00, with only 2-3 minutes effort from me.
So, it was about time to set an example of total focus on an excellent customer experience, regardless of their professional background and share my idea with the world.
The company name ‘Goods2ship Ltd.’ derives from a Google Pay-per-Click test which at the time showed the key words are used very frequently and the domains were still available.
The Certificate of Incorporation with number 498070, is dated the 27th day of April 2011.
